athenaisOh hey, it's been a minute. I've been both busy and lax. Errands, so many errands, and a couple of lunches with friends. It was miserably gloomy for awhile and then we had a heat wave; in both kinds of weather I succumbed to naps. The cold I thought I picked up at the Squeeze concert turned out to be the flu. Ironically, I got my yearly flu shot after I got better, plus a Covid booster. Wow, my arms felt like a mule kicked each one. That's never happened to me before, I usually don't react much to anything. But I'm now perfectly well and vaccinated.
I picked up my knitting again after several months off and realized I still get eyestrain from it. So it was back to the optometrist to get a single vision prescription for knitting/reading glasses. Now I'm looking for something cheap and pretty online for frames. Meanwhile, I am trying to remember how to knit all the trickier stitches. Knitting and purling are in my body memory, the other stuff I learned this year not so much. But it'll come back, of course.
John and I are getting prescription diving face masks so that we can actually see something when we go snorkeling. Being so very near-sighted means we can't see a blessed thing more than a couple of feet away and you know what fish are like, never conveniently swimming up close where we can see them. It's something I've meant to do for years. Our upcoming Polynesia trip pushed me to get it done. I'm so excited!
Although I have not yet bought a new TV I have bought an excellent piece of furniture to put it on. Which is probably the order in which to do things, of course, but I wasn't even considering that until I noticed a fabulous sale and a stand/storage unit that would fit into our designated space for the future TV. So that's quite a change in the visual of our front room.
The baseball playoffs continue and we are happy that the Milwaukee Brewers are doing well. I don't normally follow basketball, but our local team the Valkyries are doing amazing this season, so I'm an enthusiastic latecomer to the fandom. I don't pay attention to other sports.
Right now I have Swedish coffee, Hawaiian coffee, and coffee roasted over the hill in Santa Cruz in my house. I feel the way I used to feel when I had lots of new books to read: cozy and safe. There aren't many books out on our single bookshelf, we're trying to move most of them along to the charity shops and the library. What few new books I have are on the table next to my end of the sofa. They make me happy. The coffee is on the shelf in the kitchen where I can look at it when I'm in there and feel coffee happiness. Yes, I am a weirdo. But I love what I love.
